March 21, 2020 – Covid-19 Update
Hello all,
First I want to start out by saying that I hope everyone is healthy and surviving all of this quarantine madness. We are not unaffected up here, even in Ignace. There are no cases of it in town, but there have been reports of some in Thunder Bay as well as Fort Frances. Lots of things are closed in town: the school, gym, government buildings, etc.
As of right now the border between Canada and the USA is closed. We have not received much information about it, or any timelines as to when it might be re-opened. Fortunately we have almost 2 full months before our first guests are scheduled to arrive, and we are hoping things will be back to normal by then. We are proceeding as normal and being hopeful the border and travel will be open again in time for opener. In the event it isn’t, and we have to start cancelling into our season, we will offer two options for guests booked with us with deposits down. You can choose to either leave your deposit with us securing your spot for 2021, or we can refund the deposit forfeiting the cabin for 2021. We really hope it doesn’t come to this, but I just want everyone to know we do have some thoughts on how to proceed if it does.
Speaking of deposits, just a friendly reminder if you haven’t sent yours in yet to please do so. We are currently having the mail out printed and will be getting envelopes stuffed and hopefully in the mail this upcoming week. Hopefully all of these border delays don’t interfere.
On a lighter note, the weather up here has been beautiful lately. During the day the temps have been rising close to 32 degrees F, while still dropping low at night to maintain the ice. We have been doing quite a bit of ice fishing for just about all of the species our area has to offer. We have been doing well on Lake Trout, Brook Trout around Ignace, and Crappie near Dryden; and are starting to put a push on for Walleye now that they are beginning to stage up to spawn. I am actually heading out this afternoon with hopes of returning with a couple of limits.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the nice weather despite all that is going on. I will be sure to keep this blog updated as I learn any new information.
Ryan
